2020 really magnified the importance of at-home workouts: to stay healthy and get results, but also for overall mental health and wellbeing. COVID has made it impossible to consistently go to the gym due to the rules and regulations about keeping gyms open or not. Not to mention the general iffyness of risking a gym sesh for a relentless virus.
I have ALWAYS done Beachbody’s at-home workouts since becoming a mother to my 2 kiddos. I found it was so much more convenient to be able to workout from home at the drop of a hat with a crazy 2 babies under 2 schedule. Now that they are older and in school, I am STILL so in love with the convenience and results that these home workouts and nutrition plans provided - I wouldn’t dream of changing my routine. Pandemic or not. Truly, it’s been drastically life changing in so many ways. I am free from the vicious cycle of yo-yo dieting and losing/gaining the same 15 pounds over and over. My energy, confidence and MOOD hugely improved. But don’t just take my word for it.

The best way to actually get your workout done is to have no excuse not to do it, even during COVID. It is also so nice to be able to go shower right away and not feel sweaty driving home from the gym. It’s nice to not have to stick the kids in a gym child care facility as well. Mine hang around while I get my workout done and they’ve grown to respect it and follow my lead with appreciating exercise and muscles. You should see them flex, it’s precious!
The fact that no one is watching you work out at home is so important especially when you are first starting to work out. I remember being so self-conscious working out at gyms where I felt that everyone was watching me run on the treadmill or do ab workouts on the mats. Forget about the free weights. There was no room for this girl with all the dudes getting in their reps and taking up every inch of space. At home, I am free to use and do what I want! Including busting out dance moves from 1999 when I’m feeling really good. If I were at a gym, I wouldn’t be so brave and not nearly as functional or forward in my fitness. It’s a whole new world that has brought confidence and progress in my fitness journey.
Everyone Active says ‘at-home workouts improves overall health. This includes weight management, blood pressure, cardiovascular health, diabetes, cholesterol and more’. After I had both of my kids, I had baby weight to lose. Beachbody at-home workouts helped me lose the 15 pounds that I thought would be stuck on me FOREVER without crazy dieting or exercising for hours. At-home workouts increase your energy significantly even though it may be counterintuitive. If you think about it, when you are always on the couch and not doing anything, you feel like you have no energy and you can’t do anything. When you are constantly moving, working out, walking outside, etc. you feel like you have more energy. The hardest part about starting to get active is getting over the hump of feeling like you have no energy. For the first 3 weeks of adopting this new lifestyle and moving more, you might feel exhausted and and struggle to form new habits (but that’s why we have our plant based preworkout, energize).After that 3 week mark, you will have created habits and you won’t feel as tired anymore. You’ll crave and look forward to those workouts because you know how GOOD it makes you feel. It is truly amazing, you just have to push through those first 3 weeks.
Everyone Active says ‘becoming fitter can help with self-image. Meanwhile, setting and meeting workout goals contributes to a feeling of accomplishment’. At-home workouts allow you to try workouts and moves you never would have tried if people were watching you. Doing new workouts over time increases that self-confidence because you know you can do it since you have done it in the past. Also, the fitter you look, the more confident you will feel about yourself! This came into play for me as I am very much introverted with social anxiety. I was never comfortable in group settings. The more confidence I gained from my workouts, the more confident I felt about myself and as a business owner who was better able to lead by team!
My Virtual Bootcamps are accountability groups in which everyone supports each other in completing their at-home workouts each day and eating in accordance with the nutrition plan. This Virtual Bootcamp is run through an app where you can communicate with everyone in your group and cheer each other on. It is a great way to be with people even if you can’t physically be working out with your team members. Everyone Active says at-home workouts ‘provide opportunities to meet others, which reduces social isolation’. Although you technically “meet” people virtually in my Virtual Bootcamps, it still gives you a way to interact with people even if you can’t be with them in person.
Everyone Active says ‘physical activity is an effective outlet for constant tension and the “fight or flight” that many people with anxiety feel’. As someone who has anxiety, I can tell you that this is very true. Once I finish my workout, I feel a sense of relief and accomplishment. I know by doing my workout, I am taking care of my body and that is one less thing to be worried and anxious about.
At-home workouts have been proven to improve memory. Everyone Active says memory improves because at-home workouts allow for ‘greater blood flow to the brain can keep you sharper’. Who wouldn’t want to improve their memory in a healthy way like doing a workout at home?
Everyone Active says ‘people who exercise regularly have better sleep patterns and feel more rested’. I noticed this once I started at-home workouts and I followed a nutrition plan. It does take a few weeks to really notice the improved sleep, but it is noticeable and it definitely helps you when you are a Mom as every minute of sleep helps.
At-home workouts have been known to strengthen your immune system. Everyone Active says exercising makes your body stronger. ‘A stronger body is more resistant to catching a cold, the flu and other ailments’. 2020 showed us the importance of a strong immune system. COVID can be very dangerous to people with preexisting health conditions as it requires a strong immune system to recover from COVID. I believe that anything you can do to improve your immune system is a smart choice in the world we live in today!
